Song: Mother (napster) (lyrics)
Artist: Pink Floyd
Album: The Wall
" ... Mother, do you think she’s good enough,
For me?
Mother, do you think she’s dangerous,
To me?
Mother will she tear your little boy apart?
Ooooowaa mother, will she break my heart?
Hush, my baby. baby, don’t you cry.
Momma’s gonna check out all your girlfriends for you ..."
Sons and their over-protective mothers may not be peculiar only to south india ;-)

Protective mom-Son is a worldwide concept- its absolutely not an India/ south-India thing (Hello?? Everybody loves Raymond......). The only thing is that in many other parts of the world, society has made a conscious effort to change some things at least on the outside. In some cases, it has gone to the other extreme- like its cool to breakaway from family and uncool to be close to "mommy". All said and done, no woman is ever good enough for a MOM's son....and thats true in many places even now.
It must've been worse in 1979 than it is now! For sure, it adds to the "WALL" around one.
Good one smython. I liked your response. I too balked at reading "south-indian moms", but reading your response put words to my thoughts :)
