OP Nayyar

One of the greatest music directors, OP Nayyar passed away recently. I gre up listening to his songs as he was one of dad's all time favourites. As most of you probably read, he holds the distinction of NEVER having recorded a song with Lata! For that time, it was a big deal, as Lata was singing almost every song. Anyway, so basically Asha Bhonsle was pretty much introduced and made famous by OP Nayyar. He was known for his ghoda-gadi style songs, punjabi songs (uden jab jab zulfein teri), jazz like songs (babuji dheere chalna, aaiye meherbaan) and in general, songs full of beat and rhythm.

Its hard to pick one song, but anyway, I'm listing 3 of his gems:

1. Song: Jayiye aap kahan jaayenge
Film: Mere Sanam (1965)

2. Song: Bahut Shukriya, badi meherbani
Film: Ek Musafir, ek hasina

3. Pyar par bas
Film: Sone ki chidiya (1958)- absolutely mindblowing combo of OP Nayyar, Talat's voice and Asha's refrain

Enjoy!
