The math behind what's funny, aka, why you don't appreciate that wonderful PJ

Here's an NYTimes article that looks at what jokes people find funny and why. Apparently, when it comes to pj's at least (what the article calls "lame jokes"), the setting and your personal situation matters a lot in your (unconscious) decision whether to laugh at the joke or not.

“Laughter seems to be an automatic response to your situation rather than a conscious strategy”

I wonder if you guys had any "discussions" to settle the issue as to whether Vugs doesn't laugh for PJs because he has an intentional strategy..

It's now universally agreed (well, not counting Vugs himself) that it is indeed an intentional strategy. The "joke" I have seen him enjoy the most over the recent past (maybe ever) is one where this guy is in his bathtub, using a sponge (or a loofa or whatever), and his wife is also in the bathroom. The guy then suddenly stands up with his mid-portion covered with suds, and the sponge on top of his head, and proclaims to the wife: "Sponge-top, NO-pants". And Vugs almost had tears in his eyes from laughing. Of course, Vugs being who he is, then said that he was laughing not at the proclamation itself, but at the expression on the wife's face.
